Unlike regular applications, each memory stick includes a mini version of OS X along with a suite of diagnostic & repair routines. I can only add that I have known and used Diskwarrior for longer than Drive Genius. Drive Genius is very similar in function and presentation and it too is now available in memory stick form. I own several MacBook Pros and my ultimate defence against disaster is Diskwarrior, which also comes on a memory stick.
